Purrdown privacy policy
Last updated: 27 September 2026
Purrdown is an Android app for reading, editing and sharing Markdown files. This policy explains what information the app uses and why. In short: your documents stay on your phone unless you turn on Google Drive sync, which copies them to your own Google Drive; the only other data that leaves your phone is what Google's services need for crash reports, usage statistics, ads and purchases.
Your documents
Files and text you open in Purrdown are copied into the app's private storage on your phone. Their content, names and your edits are never sent to us. When you share a document, it goes only to the app you choose.
Google Drive sync
Google Drive sync is optional and part of Purrdown Pro. It only starts when you connect your Google account in Settings → Google Drive. Then:
- Your folders and documents are copied to a “Purrdown” folder in your own Google Drive, and changes made there come back to the app. They go directly between your phone and Google; we never receive them.
- Purrdown asks only for access to the files it creates (the
drive.filepermission). It cannot see anything else in your Drive. - The app remembers which Google account is connected, on your phone only, and reads that account's email address to show it in Settings.
- You can disconnect at any time in Settings → Google Drive, or remove Purrdown's access in your Google Account (Security → Third-party apps with account access). Disconnecting doesn't delete anything: your documents stay on your phone and in your Drive, where you can delete them yourself.
Files in your Drive are covered by the Google Privacy Policy.
Purrdown's use and transfer of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
Information collected by Google services
Purrdown uses these Google services, which collect some information from your device:
- Firebase Analytics: how the app is used, e.g. that a document was opened or shared, its size, whether it has diagrams, and purchase results. Never the content or name of a document.
- Firebase Crashlytics: crash reports and technical details (device model, Android version, app version) so we can fix errors. Only in release versions of the app.
- Firebase Remote Config and Cloud Messaging: an app instance identifier, to deliver settings and occasional notifications.
- Google AdMob: shows ads to users without Purrdown Pro. AdMob may use your device's advertising ID, IP address and approximate location, and information about ad interactions. In the European Economic Area, the UK and other regions where it is required, the app asks for your consent first, and you can change your choice at any time in Settings → Privacy options.
- Google Play: handles the Purrdown Pro purchase and payment. We don't receive your payment details; the app only checks with Google Play whether your account owns Purrdown Pro.
How Google uses this information is described in How Google uses information from sites or apps that use our services and the Google Privacy Policy.
Advertising ID
You can reset or delete your advertising ID, or opt out of personalized ads, in your phone's settings (Settings → Google → Ads, or Settings → Security & privacy → Ads, depending on the phone). Purrdown Pro removes ads entirely.
Children
Purrdown is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect information from them.
Deleting your data
Settings → Clear recent files removes every document from the app (with Google Drive sync on, the synced copies go to your Drive trash); uninstalling the app removes everything it stored on your phone. Copies in your Google Drive stay until you delete them there. The statistics and crash reports described above are not linked to your name or email; you can ask us to delete any data associated with your device by contacting us.
Changes
If this policy changes, for example when a new feature sends data somewhere new, we will update this page and the date above before that feature is released.
